How does holistic skin care differ from conventional skin care?

Let me introduce myself. My name is Sharonah Rapseik. I am a holistic esthetician and a natural life style advocate and blogger. I am the owner of SPA Holistica, a private spa in the heart of New York City where in each and every one of my spa services I am committed to using only natural, nontoxic, and earth friendly ingredients.

So what is all the buzz about holistic skin care?

Let me start by saying that whenever as a holistic-minded esthetician like myself looks at someone’s skin, we see the whole person. I know that in order to stimulate real and lasting positive changes in the appearance of one’s skin, it’s surface symptoms cannot be treated as isolated issues. The aim of holistic skin care philosophy is not to merely address the visible surface of the face but to instead target deeper root problems and work with the body systems in an effort to balance and revitalize the whole body – mind, body, and spirit

This philosophy is very different one from the conventional skin care model that focuses mainly on attacking the immediate symptoms of visible skin conditions and even the signs of aging by the use of harsh topical chemical ingredients and sometimes even potentially toxic drugs. From a holistic point of view, these very same symptoms on the surface of the skin can actually be instead helpful messengers of deeper imbalances that can be best addressed by natural approaches, including diet and lifestyle changes and switching to natural ingredients and remedies like essential oils that respect our skin and body’s s own innate intelligence to balance and correct itself.
